130 km separates Lanzarote from the African continent which gives us a great climate all year round with average air temperatures of 23ºC and water temps of 21ºC. The north-western trade winds locally known as Alisos, strongest in July and august, help keep the island cool in summer. Rainy days are rare, and concentrated to the months of January and February. Being of volcanic origin, the island offers some stunning rugged coastlines, small coves and sunny beaches many of which are only accessible from the sea.
The Islands of La Graciosa, Montaña Clara and Alegranza north of Lanzarote are a popular stop-over on multi-day kayaking trips. The same applies to Lobos Island and Fuerteventura in the south.
